APRIL DESSERT SOCIAL

A dessert social is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29th at 6 p.m.  Mark your calendars.  Our program will include a presentation and raffle from our own local Super Suppers.  Their service is very relevant to the busy professional and anyone needing a delicious alternative to cooking in or going out.  All Tierrasanta residents age 50 and older are invited to be our guests.  We're asking everyone to please contact us either by phone (858-569-9119) or by email (tierrasantaproject@msn.com) to let us know they can attend.  We, then, will provide our Social location (in Tierrasanta).

GARAGE SALE/BAKE SALE

Coordinated by a very dedicated group of volunteers, our first Garage and Bake Sale held March 29th, was a tremendous success.  Thanks to all of you who supported this effort which raised much needed seed money.

VOICE OF SAN DIEGO

On January 10th, our own Susan Deininger hosted the voiceofsandiego.org/cafesandiego/ blog.  Susan wrote about our grassroots effort in Tierrasanta and our hopes that residents will step up this year and help us make Tierrasanta Village of San Diego a reality in our community.

HOLIDAY DESSERT SOCIAL

We had a great turnout at our Holiday Dessert Social on Monday evening, December 10th held at the Villa Portofino Clubhouse.  Tables were filled with yummy desserts and all enjoyed the 'regift' exchange.  We thank special guest, Dr. Mario Garrett,  Chair of the Gerontology Graduate School at SDSU, for joining us.

THANK YOU

At the Tierrasanta Car Show on October 13th, 1st Place Winner, Gary Neuman, who also won a raffle prize, donated that raffle prize (one year mail box services at The UPS Store) to the Tierrasanta Project.   Thank You, Gary Neuman!!

VOLUNTEER TEA:

On Saturday afternoon, October 6th, Volunteer Coordinator, June Grimmett, put on a 'Volunteer Tea' at the home of Greg and Fran Zweibel.  The food table was assembled with a wide variety of delicious food which also included English Tea basics such as lemon curd, clotted cream, jam and crumpets.  Pamela Dettering was designated the 'pourer of tea'.   It was a very pleasant afternoon and an enjoyable time to socialize with fellow volunteers.

A Pot Luck Social:

We held a very successful Pot Luck Social on Tuesday, 28 August at Susan Deininger's home.  Tables and chairs were set up outside and we served Iced Tea, Lemonade, Bread and Dessert.   There were 28 attendees who brought a wide assortment of Summer Salads.  Aside from the socializing, we played bingo and a number of attendees won prizes.  After the fun, we took time for enlightenment and watched a DVD presentation of Joseph Coughlin from MIT AgeLab who presented at the 'Building Blocks' Conference in Boston, MA this past April/May 2007.  This conference was sponsored by Beacon Hill Village, Massachusetts General Hospital and MIT AgeLab, and attended by core members, Susan Deininger, Candy Walsh and Anne Hoffman.
Building Blocks Conference - Boston, MA 4/30 and 5/1/2007

Co-sponsored by Beacon Hill Village (BHV), Massachusetts General Hospital, and MIT AgeLab, the conference was attended by Susan Deininger, Anne Hoffman and Candy Walsh.  What did we learn?  There is a groundswell occurring in a number of communities evidenced by the representatives attending and by the waiting list of those wanting to attend this conference.  BHV is now 5 years old and the Tierrasanta Project, like other grassroots efforts in attendance, is looking to bring this membership model to our community yet tailor it to fit the needs of our residents.  There are a number of such models springing up along the East Coast, many with modifications that meet the needs of their locale and residents.  All panelists told of their experiences and plans, and time was allowed for Q&As.  Networking was at its peak throughout the conference because we all felt the need to help each other as we go forward.  This was also evidenced by a recently developed "Google Group" which allows us to field questions to the group and benefit from the experience of others.   BHV also video-taped the conference with the intention of making DVDs available for purchase.

We were in the Patriot's Day Parade and the Arts and Craft Fair

Saturday, 19 May 2007

Did you see us in the Parade?  Tierrasanta resident, Joe Hester, drove his blue VW convertible, and riders Elaine Moser and Greg Zweibel waved to the crowd.

Member, Christine St. Ives shared her table at the Arts and Craft Fair with Tierrasanta Project and several volunteers passed out brochures about our Project.

Thanks to all of you for your part in making the community more aware of the Tierrasanta Project and our ability to change our futures in our community.
